Bowl 15 – Information Overload

$89.95

Bowl 15 was originally going to be called ‘Binary Bowl’ as I’m an MS_DOS girl from way back in the ’80s but ‘Information Overload’ seemed more appropriate.

Description

Bowl 15 – Information Overload was made from the images used to illustrate an article on the way the personal details we upload to the internet can be used in ways we’d never imagined, and the article makes mention of the whole Cambridge Analytica/US Election issue. I actually didn’t read the article originally – I’d pulled the pages from the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Weekend magazine a couple of years prior because I loved the whole binary theme of the graphic design! (I did read it eventually, before I started tearing it up, and found it quite scary – echoes of George Orwell’s Big Brother were all through it!)

So Bowl 15 was originally going to be called ‘Binary Bowl’ as I’m an MS_DOS girl from way back in the ’80s (probably long before many of you were even born!). But once I started tearing the strips and working out how to place them, I noticed the words ‘Information Overload’ and that seemed a really appropriate title because that’s what we’re all suffering with these days. Well, at least I am. 😉

It was an interesting mathematical exercise, too – to get rectangular strips of paper to retain their shape and form in a round bowl, hence the design.

This bowl would make the perfect gift for the programmer or mathematician in your life! (Hint, hint.)

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Lollies, candy etc. are for perspective purposes only – item ships without these. (Basically because they’d be really, really stale by the time you received them!)
  • Price includes shipping within Australia. If you’re overseas, a $15 surcharge will apply once you enter your shipping address to help cover the additional shipping costs.

This series of papier mache bowls is created from self-supporting papier mache, bar the base which has been strengthened with a piece of recycled corrugated cardboard.

All bowls are made from a combination of recycled office and other paper, and some contain new paper for decorative purposes. The occasional bowl will also incorporate other media such as beads etc. The bowls are created using PVA glue and/or Bondcrete and are sealed with at least three coats of Cabot’s Benchtop Clear food safe varnish.

Each bowl is unique.

The bowls are decorative only – while they are sealed and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, they should not be immersed in any liquid, nor should they be placed in the dishwasher, oven or microwave.

While they’ve been sealed with a food safe varnish, I don’t recommend using them as a storage bowl for fruit where the skin is intended to be eaten e.g. plums, apples, grapes etc. Thicker skin which will be peeled should be okay e.g. oranges, bananas, rockmelon etc.

No bowl is completely round, nor completely flat. While the structure starts off reasonably straight, it slowly takes on its own dents and warps as it grows.
