About Sammy Starfish
Sammy Starfish loves life! They show off, sing, skateboard and have all sorts of personalities such as being studious, spooky or sneaky. Pretty much, if it starts with an ‘s’, you’ll find Sammy there!
Where did Sammy come from?
Sammy Starfish came to me as the result of a dream.
As I was waking up one morning, I dreamt of beautiful blue heart-shaped shells with solid design lines laying on pale yellow and white sand. I jumped out of bed, grabbed a scrap of watercolour paper and my watercolour brush pens and tried to capture what I’d seen before I forgot about it. The result was nothing like what I had in my mind – particularly the 1970s-style telephone receivers that snuck in there! 🙁
Disappointed, I put everything away, got on with my day and figured I’d forget about it.
Then somewhere over the next 24 hours, those two little starfish on the scrap paper ignited in my imagination as Sammy the Starfish. After a bit of research into how starfish actually look, followed by some sketching and excitement, Sammy Starfish was born!
In short, Sammy has no defined gender, and everything they do or want to be starts with an ‘s’. They have no body parts apart from a head, four limbs and sometimes a mouth – but it’s not always open. (Unlike mine. 😉 )

My originals of Sammy are hand-painted acrylics on paper which are then scanned for printing on the above products. I don’t plan to sell the originals – I keep those in a folder. (Filed alphabetically, of course!)
