IN CONFIDENCE
Dear Butler,
I should be glad to know if you can yet give me fairly “close” dates for your leaving Ahwaz and arriving in this country. (“Late May” is being mentioned here as a probable time).
With the approaching end of your tour of duty abroad we have been thinking about your future and it would be useful if you would let me know how your mind is moving in this matter. Windscale is on the decline and you would not, I think, be likely to go back there. How do you feel about going to another special site, or would you prefer to come to Headquarters? One possibility is Bedford which is developing into a large project and it may be that Entwistle will go there shortly as Chief Clerk.
You will realise, of course, that I am not in a position to make any promises but we should like to consider your wishes if possible, so please let me know your ideas. (Probably you will want to take your end-of-tour leave immediately on your return).
Yours sincerely,
G.B. GRESTOCK
H.M. Butler, Esq.,
Ministry of Works,
Ahwaz.
