Further to your interview on the 14th August 1956, we are prepared to offer you a position as a Cost Clerk on our Iranian Roads Reconstruction Project in Iran, subject to the Rules of Service, a copy of which was sent to you on the 24th July, and subject both to your passing a medical examination as to your physical fitness and your references being satisfactory as at the following salary –

£ 70. Per month sterling paid into an account opened in your name at Barclays Bank D.C.O., Nairobi.

14,000 rials per month paid to you in Iran.

£ 75. Kit allowance paid once only prior to leaving the U.K.

In addition to this you will receive such other allowances in cash or kind as are mentioned in the Rules of Service where these are applicable.

As it is not expressly stated in the Rules of Service, we confirm that your engagement and hence your salary will not start until such time as you arrive in Iran.

Would you kindly let us know in writing if you are prepared to accept this offer and if so when you will be free to go to Iran. In your case the vacancy is open now and if you accept we would be very glad if you could go as soon as possible, although [sic] we appreciate that you will require to settle your personal affairs before departure.

You will note that this offer is subject both to medical examination and to references being satisfactory, and if you accept we advise you not to give your notice to your present employers until such time as you have heard from us that your medical examination and references are in order.

Yours faithfully,
For JOHN MOWLEM & CO.LTD.,

W.H.Morgan.
