Description

‘Today I Choose’ is a papier mache bowl inspired by a sheet of scrapbooking paper that was on my recycling pile. Black with white typed lettering in all-caps, it was full of inspiring thoughts for a young woman, or even a teenage girl, to give them confidence to go out and kick ass! (Or kick arse as we Aussies would more likely say.)

I loved the idea of a swirling rainbow of colours coming out from the centre and bringing longer and more encouraging and inspiring thoughts with it, so I arranged the words accordingly, and chose tissue papers that blended logically from one colour to the next, then repeated the colour pattern back towards the centre on the outside of the bowl.

Some of the expressions used were things such as:

  • stay humble
  • shine shine shine
  • smile often
  • believe
  • strength
  • today I choose happiness
  • this is my story
  • every moment.

This bowl is perfect inspiration for the teenage girl who is still coming to terms with the idea that life will be just fine – if only she can believe in herself.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Lollies, candy etc. are for perspective purposes only – item ships without these. (Basically because they’d be really, really stale by the time you received them!)
  • Price includes shipping within Australia. If you’re overseas, a $15 surcharge will apply once you enter your shipping address to help cover the additional shipping costs.

BOWL 11 – TODAY I CHOOSE DETAILS:

  • Diameter: 29 cm (this is one of the most evenly round bowls I have made to date)
  • Height: Between 6.2 and 6.8 cm
  • Weight: 119 gms (0.12 kg)

This series of papier mache bowls is created from self-supporting papier mache, bar the base which has been strengthened with a piece of recycled corrugated cardboard.

All bowls are made from a combination of recycled office and other paper, and some contain new paper for decorative purposes. The occasional bowl will also incorporate other media such as beads etc. The bowls are created using PVA glue and/or Bondcrete and are sealed with at least three coats of Cabot’s Benchtop Clear food safe varnish.

Each bowl is unique.

The bowls are decorative only – while they are sealed and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, they should not be immersed in any liquid, nor should they be placed in the dishwasher, oven or microwave.

While they’ve been sealed with a food safe varnish, I don’t recommend using them as a storage bowl for fruit where the skin is intended to be eaten e.g. plums, apples, grapes etc. Thicker skin which will be peeled should be okay e.g. oranges, bananas, rockmelon etc.

No bowl is completely round, nor completely flat. While the structure starts off reasonably straight, it slowly takes on its own dents and warps as it grows.
