My ‘Central Australia’ series was inspired by some photos on calendars. I’ve only been to the Outback once – back in 1988 – and the calendars were a wonderful reminder of the amazing geology and fauna I saw there. Aside from ‘Central Australia V’, these artworks aren’t replicas of the photos but interpretations of them. I have no idea who the original photographers were, but I thank you for the artistic stimulation!
‘Central Australia II’ is one of three watercolour works based on the same image. The view is of a gorge with trees and some surrounding rocks and vegetation.
‘Central Australia II’ was created on watercolour paper and has a very narrow border for matting, except at the left hand side where it’s a little bit wider. The ‘inked’ image was drawn separately and photocopied onto the paper prior to painting. The three images (Central Australia II, III and IV) are therefore based on the same drawing, but with different colouring.
