Hydrangeas was inspired by the crop of hydrangeas we have along the edge of our back deck. It doesn’t matter how much we hack them back each autumn, they return each summer with the most marvellous display of blooms.
This painting was done using a toothbrush to create the background and then bubble wrap with impasto gel to create the underlying texture. It was then a case of painting in the flowers and leaves and getting the light to look right.
This is a partner piece to Ginger Lilies but has been sold. It’s included here for completeness.
