Description
‘Megan’s Marvellous Hair’ is an abstract watercolour and ink work. I wanted to create something using strong, bright watercolours, instead of something wishy-washy, so I applied a selection of random patches to a piece of Arches watercolour paper choosing around six colours from the rainbow.
A few days later I got out the pens and began drawing lines where they felt right. This was a totally organic experience – and terrifying! I hate wasting paper etc, so didn’t want to muck it up, but wanted to teach myself not to try to control the outcome.
I created this in 2015, but it was unnamed for a long time until I met a young girl who reminded me of the girl who emerged from this picture. I don’t recall the real-life girl’s name, but for some reason ‘Megan’ comes to mind now whenever I look at this picture, so in the last few months it has become ‘Megan’s Marvellous Hair’.

This original artwork has a narrow border for matting when framing but comes attached to a larger sheet of black craft paper as per the sample framed photo.
