On a visit to the US in 2011 we caught the ferry across San Francisco Bay to Sausalito. It was springtime and the telegraph poles along the foreshore were festooned with baskets of the most brightly coloured flowers. I’d never seen a foreshore like it, so of course, I had to paint them when I returned home!
The water had been a little choppy that day, and so I’ve tried to capture that movement, along with the timber of the wharf and the feel of the light coming through the flowers from the south (the right hand side). That was a bit of a challenge as the sun was quite bright all round that day.
This is one of my favourite paintings – it cheers me up and brings back great memories.
Like so many of my acrylic paintings, this one was completed using old credit and sim cards to apply the paint – no brushes were harmed in its making.
Acrylic on stretched canvas, ready to hang.
