Everglades Historic House and Gardens in south Leura is a great place for artists learning to paint plein air (the act of painting outdoors) – the place is full of plants, lawns, trees, water, rocks, walls and buildings. Something for everyone!
This image is an impression of the waterfall and cliffs surrounding the ‘grotto’ at Everglades. Not everyone gets to see the grotto – you have to make the effort to go around the back of the house and follow the pathways down to the lower part of the garden, so that makes this painting kind of special to me.
Like most of my pen and watercolour works, this one was created paint first, ink after, on an A3 sheet of watercolour paper.
There’s not much of a border for matting – what you see is what you get – but a good framer will probably be able to do it without cutting off the tree tops too much!
