Gerberas

Description

I had a vase of gerberas on my dining room table and they were fascinating – the way the petals were just layered and layered to form the flower.

I took them to my art table one day and attempted to capture them in several different ways: with chalk pastel, oil pastel, acrylic paint etc, but the only outcome I was happy with was this watercolour and ink effort on a fairly sturdy watercolour paper. Like many of my watercolour and ink works, ‘Gerberas’ is a ‘colour first/ink later’ work, the same as ‘Oranges and Lemons‘, ‘Bents Basin‘ and ‘Amazon River‘.

‘Gerberas’ was created on Arches watercolour paper and has a decent border for matting.
